As a Peking Opera piece with profound social significance and artistic appeal, The Execution of Chen Shimei is re-examined in this study from a historical perspective, adhering to the fundamental principles of Marxist literary criticism. Through textual research on aspects such as Chen Shimei's identity, marital logic, and the judicial mechanisms of the Song Dynasty, this paper analyzes the historical inaccuracies in the opera and explores the reasons for its success, aiming to provide insights for the creation and adaptation of modern Peking Opera and other theatrical works.
