As human activities continue to expand, coastal soils are under serious threat. Urbanization, industrialization, and marine pollution have led to a decline in soil quality and ecosystem degradation. To address these issues, it is essential to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics, functions, and challenges faced by coastal soils, thereby enabling the formulation of effective protection and sustainable utilization strategies. This book explores these issues from multiple perspectives and provides practical solutions.

The structure of this book is divided into several sections: The first part provides a detailed introduction to the definition, classification, and distribution of coastal soils, giving readers a comprehensive understanding of these soils. The second part analyzes the threats and challenges facing coastal soils, including both natural and human-induced factors. The third part discusses protection strategies for coastal soils, focusing on policy formulation, technological innovation, and public engagement. The fourth part examines sustainable utilization approaches for coastal soils, aiming to achieve both economic and ecological benefits. The final part summarizes the content of the book and offers prospects for the future protection and sustainable utilization of coastal soils. Specifically, the chapters are as follows: Chapter 1, Coastal Soil Development and Formation (written by Jin Li); Chapter 2, Coastal Soil Characteristics (written by Jin Li and Tingting Duan); Chapter 3, Coastal Soil Protection (written by Jin Li and Xianmin Wang); Chapter 4, Sustainable Utilization of Coastal Soils (written by Jin Li and Xianmin Wang); Chapter 5, Coastal Soil Remediation and Improvement Technologies (written by Jin Li and Tingting Duan); Chapter 6, Coastal Soil Management Policies and Legislation (written by Zhong Lin, Xiaoli Chen, and Yinling Zhu); Chapter 7, Future Outlook and Research Directions (written by Jin Li, Xianmin Wang, and Tingting Duan). Associate Professor Jin Li was responsible for constructing the overall framework of the book, Professor Xianmin Wang conducted the final review, and Associate Professor Tingting Duan carried out the final proofreading. Shuaiyin Yang, Xuemin Hu and Meihe Li contributed to the investigation and analysis of coastal soil resources, while Zhijie Xu, Gan Liang and Shuaiyin Yang provided assistance in photographing relevant landscape images for the book. Zhong Lin, Xiaoli Chen and Yinling Zhu participated in the textual review of the manuscript.
