This book selects representative family precepts, family letters, and thoughts on family governance from historical and cultural figures in Huxiang area before the founding of New China, categorizing them into six major categories: self-cultivation, family governance, civilization promotion, official engagement, social interaction, and making friends. Ten representative texts are selected from each category. To facilitate readers’ understanding, this book provides a summary in modern mandarin for each ancient family letter and precept text, along with a brief introduction to the author and the writing background. Guided by the principles of eco-translation and the three-dimensional translation method, this book provides English translations of the selected original texts, along with translation annotations, hoping to provide some inspiration and reference for translators engaged in the translation of traditional Chinese family precepts.
