The human experience is multifaceted, including both selfless behavior and the temptation of addictive drugs. It is in this complexity that exploring prosocial traits and their potential impact on drug addiction becomes the focus. Prosocial behaviors, such as empathy, kindness, and cooperation, have long been regarded as social virtues that can promote social cohesion, well-being, and community improvement. In contrast, drug addiction is a complex and often destructive condition characterized by compulsive use of drugs and harmful consequences for physical and mental health. The juxtaposition of prosocial characteristics and drug addiction presents a contradictory relationship, which has attracted the interest of researchers, clinical doctors, and policy makers. We believe that in-depth research on the relationship between prosocial traits and susceptibility to drug addiction can provide new theoretical and practical guidance for preventing and treating drug addiction. We hope that this research achievement can provide useful references and insights for researchers and practitioners in related fields, thereby making our contribution to solving the problem of drug addiction in China and even globally.
