Introduction

This monograph focuses on the study of English teaching and translation in a multilingual and cross-cultural context. It is divided into six chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the theoretical basis of English teaching in multilingual and cross-cultural backgrounds, including cross-cultural communication theory, English teaching and language transfer of multilingual students and the influence of cultural factors on English teaching. The second chapter discusses the English teaching strategies under the multilanguage and cross-cultural background, including the study of the intercultural nature of English subjects and its teaching implementation, the study of theme-based intercultural English teaching, the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence in English reading teaching, and the study of cultural content and teaching strategies in Bashu culture textbooks from the perspective of intercultural communicative competence. The third chapter discusses the cross-cultural problems in English teaching under the multi-lingual and cross-cultural background, including the research on the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness in English teaching, research on cross-cultural problems in English teaching, the investigation and research on aphasia problems in Chinese culture in English teaching from the cross-cultural perspective, and the analysis of the problems in Indonesian and Malay English teaching under the multi-lingual and cross-cultural background. Chapter four mainly introduces the basic principles of English translation, including Skopos theory and translation strategies, translator style and author style, and English translation methods and quality evaluation criteria. The fifth chapter discusses English translation strategies under the multilanguage and cross-cultural background, including cross-cultural communicative translation, cross-cultural perspective transformation and translation skills in English translation, the cultivation of students' cross-cultural communication awareness in business English translation teaching and the cultural loss of Chinese-English idioms in cross-cultural translation. Chapter six discusses the future development of English teaching and translation under the multilanguage and cross-cultural background, including English teachers' cross-cultural understanding ability and its generation, College English intercultural communication curriculum design research, Bashu culture in the Belt and Road Initiative and translation theory practice, and the status quo, problems and countermeasures of cross-cultural education in college English teaching. The research of this chapter provides some ideas and directions for the development of English teaching and translation in the multilingual and cross-cultural background in the future.
